which will put them ahead of several other country on this type of project.

All they need now is a useful source of nightime energy to keep topping the batteries up. Do you think they will look for something? Trouble is, while "renewable energy" is topical and feel good, it is expensive and not so long lasting - by all accounts. average life time solar system in australia has been calculated at 4.5 years. then it is off to the tip. Batteries also have an issue. we seem to be chasing ourselves looking for solutions that appease the energy companies and the tax collectors.

Not quite Ourbobby, i am completely off grid, the nearest grid is approx 7 klms away through thick bushland and very steep hills.
I have 72 kw of tubular plate gel 2v 3000ah cells battery bank, which has a chemistry life of twenty years, running fridges and freezers and a small cool room etc it doesn't go below 90% so i expect it to last at least 15 yrs same with panels etc.
If you take today's electricity prices on grid it works out cheaper per year than being connected to grid, you just pay up front is all.

totally agree with you.
I'm working on a remote radio network and I confirm that what you said is true.As an example I have a 100% solar repeaters that works 24 hours a day 365 days a year and the first one was installed by me in 2006, so it's been 13 years that it works without a break.
The solar plates are guaranteed for 20 years and the batteries I change them to 9 years but they are still good I change them for safety.
With the graphite battries coming up it's going to be a whole changes, it is free energy and it works, I have 3 others like that and everyone is satisfied.
Austria is ahead.
